SOARING LIKE AN EAGLE, perhaps one of the bald eagles that frequent the Big Bear area in fabulous feathery fashion, isn’t possible for people, not unless we begin to sprout wings one day. Still, there are other ways to head up, up, up into the sky, or near the sky, if we wish to leave the world and woes behind for an evening. Driving up to Snow Summit in Big Bear, a destination that absolutely qualifies in the “above most everything else in the region” department, and then riding a chairlift will help us feel a little eagle-ish, at least for a night. And that (literally) uplifting opportunity is sprouting its own wings on June 5 when Skyline at Sundown, an evening series, gains its first lift-off this summer.
Sunset and BBQ are the themes over several summer nights at Big Bear Mountain Resort.
BBQ BUFFET, PICNIC TABLES, BIG VIEWS: The theme is barbecue, that classic summer fare, and live tunes will add to the chill-out, it’s-all-good atmosphere. You’ll want to know when to catch your chairlift up — those begin at 4:30 p.m. — and when the final lift leaves the supper scene (that’s 7:30 p.m.). Prices range from $40 to $75 for guests who are 13 and older and $40 to $50 for guests 12 and younger. While not taking place every night, there are nearly three dozen dates on the 2026 calendar, with the final dinner set for Sept. 12, right when those beautiful fall vibes are arriving. For more mountain merriment happening in Big Bear this summer, including Father’s Day fun and Puptopia in July, ride the chairlift by this site.
