Go up, up, and even further up, up Mammoth Mountain, for a ‘Summit Sunset Party'

Дата публикации: 24-06-2026 16:02:32

THE MINARETS, that marvelous collection of peaks that threads through part of the Sierra Nevada, are often described as “jagged” and rightly so. You might even call them “pointy” if you want to get to the point, but mountain mavens have other ways to sum up their indisputable majesty, especially when describing how these sky-high pointy peaks appear at sunset. You can find your own poetry when it comes the Minarets by viewing them from over 11,000 feet up — 11,053, to be precise — when the Summit Sunset Party returns to the upper reaches of Mammoth Mountain on July 3 and Sept. 6. No climbing gear will be required to reach this fabled, view-blessed spot: The Scenic Gondola Ride is your ride up and down the mountain. Music will add to the atmosphere and bites and beverages will be for sale, making it a memorable gathering in a spot that is often under several feet of snow. Also? Tickets are free for seniors ages 80 and older and kids 12 and younger, so nice.
OTHER HAPPENINGS… are adding big flavor to the scenic area’s summer calendar, with the Mammoth Feel Good Festival jamming out at the end of June, the First Responder Festival set for June’s final Sunday, and Fourth of July fun flowering around the mountain and Mammoth Lakes. Country music, energetic bike rides, Mammoth Jazzfest, Mammoth Reggae Festival, and Mammoth Villagefest are all on the July schedule, with Mammoth Margarita Fest and Mammoth Wine Weekend raising a glass in August. As for what’s afoot in Mammoth Lakes, and June Lake, and the other warm-weather offerings around the Eastern Sierra? Visit each location’s site to find out how to complement your Mammoth Mountain adventures this summer.
BUT WAIT: You say you’re more into the chill than the warmth? The slopes will open in just over four months, so that isn’t too long to dilly dally, and you can get to know what the mountain delivers in wintertime (spoiler alert: The list is long).
