The genome sequence of the Spanish Gatekeeper, Maniola bathseba (Fabricius, 1793) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) [version 1; peer review: 1 approved]

We present a genome assembly from a female specimen of Maniola bathseba (Spanish Gatekeeper; Arthropoda; Insecta; Lepidoptera; Nymphalidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 391.48 megabases and 359.11 megabases. Most of the haplotype 1 assembly (99.76%) was scaffolded into 29 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the W and Z sex chromosomes. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 15.24 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly by Ensembl identified 12,732 protein-coding genes. This work is part of Project Psyche, a collaborative programme generating genomes for European butterflies and moths.
