The genome sequence of the Wild Cherry, Prunus avium (L.) L. (Rosales: Rosaceae) [version 1; peer review: 1 approved]

We present a genome assembly of Prunus avium (Wild Cherry; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Rosales; Rosaceae). The assembly consists of two haplotypes with total lengths of 355.75 megabases and 346.15 megabases. Most of the haplotype 1 assembly (94.37%) was scaffolded into eight chromosomal pseudomolecules. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial sequences have lengths of 163.46 and 281.1 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 157.81 kilobases. Gene annotation of the haplotype 1 assembly by Ensembl identified 27,625 protein-coding genes. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces reference genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
