The genome sequence of the Silver Birch, Betula pendula Roth (Fagales: Betulaceae) [version 1; peer review: 1 approved]

We present a genome assembly of Betula pendula (Silver Birch; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Fagales; Betulaceae). The assembly consists of two haplotypes with total lengths of 403.47 megabases and 411.74 megabases. Most of the haplotype 1 assembly (99.95%) was scaffolded into 14 chromosomal pseudomolecules. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome assembly has a length of 743.77 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 160.61 kilobases. Gene annotation of the haplotype 1 assembly by Ensembl identified 29,794 protein-coding genes. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces reference genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
