MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – The practical implementation of joint projects between Belarus and Myanmar should start as early as next year, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during an expanded-format meeting with Myanmar’s President Min Aung Hlaing in Minsk on 21 August, BelTA has learned.
The head of state pointed out that the guidelines for work have been defined and set in the roadmap for the cooperation development for 2026-2028. Its execution will be further advanced by the opening of the two countries’ embassies in Minsk and Naypyidaw in 2026.
“The task of the Belarusian diplomatic mission has been defined with utmost precision – to work hand in hand with the government agencies of Myanmar to ensure the launch of joint projects in industrial cooperation, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors. In 2027, all these projects must move from the paperwork phase to implementation on the ground,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
According to him, Belarus and Myanmar have already made significant progress in this regard, and the horizon of interaction has been expanded due to the resumption of interparliamentary and interparty cooperation.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the parties had previously signed comprehensive package of documents, many of which have already entered into force. For example, the visa waiver agreement has begun to work, reducing bureaucratic barriers. Furthermore, during the current visit of the president of Myanmar to Belarus, the bilateral legal framework is being expanded with new agreements, with an emphasis on trade and economic cooperation.

The president highlighted the active work of the joint working group on cooperation in agriculture and food. Less than a year into its establishment, the group has already held two meetings. “This means there is something to discuss,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
Furthermore, an intergovernmental commission on cooperation in science and technology has been established. Its first meeting in Minsk is expected to take place as early as this year.
“We are interested in intensifying contacts in tourism, culture, and sports. We have taken note of your request regarding a larger quota for the admission of Myanmar citizens to study in our country,” the president said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko also pointed out that the visit of children from Myanmar to spend their holidays at Belarusian camps was met with great enthusiasm. The head of state expressed confidence that such trips lay a solid foundation for long-term friendship.
