Hi everyone,
I had my *first-ever VFS appointment on 12 August* for my Portuguese D2 application, and I came away with a few things I hadn't fully understood beforehand — so I'm hoping those of you who have already been through the process can give me some advice.
*First surprise* — the company needs to be registered in PortugalI had understood that for the D2 you essentially needed a solid business idea and business plan, and that the Portuguese company could be set up as part of the process.
Apparently, *that's not the case*. I was told that the business needs to be registered in Portugal, which has now sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole!
I'm currently working on setting up my Portuguese company, so that's where I am at the moment.
*What should my wife do?*This is another area where I'm getting conflicting information.
I had originally assumed that my wife and I would *both apply for D2 visas*, with both of us being included on the company documentation. I'm perfectly happy for her to be involved in the company if that's the simplest route.
However, I was also told that *I could apply for the D2 and my wife could potentially enter Portugal under a D8 visa*.
This is completely new information to me.
Has anyone actually done this, or can someone explain the advantages/disadvantages of:
*Option 1:* We both apply for D2
*Option 2:* I apply for D2 and my wife applies for D8
I'd particularly like to understand how this works in practice once we're actually living in Portugal, rather than just what the visa websites say!
*Accountant*I also need to find an *English-speaking accountant in Portugal* to help me set everything up properly.
Obviously, *cost is a major consideration at this stage*, as we're trying to keep our initial business costs under control.
So if anyone can recommend a good English-speaking Portuguese accountant who is reasonably priced, I'd really appreciate it.
*Lawyer*I'm also considering changing lawyers.
The lawyer I'm currently using isn't particularly helpful — communication is very slow and I'm often waiting a long time for answers. Given how important the D2 application is, I'm not particularly comfortable with that.
So if anyone has used a *good English-speaking Portuguese immigration/business lawyer*, particularly someone experienced with D2 applications, I'd love to hear your recommendations.
*Finally — the D2 requirements*This is probably the biggest thing I'm looking for help with.
If anyone who has *recently gone through the D2 process successfully* would be willing to talk me through exactly what they submitted, the order they did everything in, and what VFS/Portuguese immigration actually wanted to see, I'd be incredibly grateful.
There seems to be a lot of conflicting information online, and I'd much rather learn from people who have actually been through the process.
*Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction, recommend an accountant/lawyer, or share their own D2 experience.*
Tom
