Ensuing chaos will not be pretty or peaceful,” he wrote on X.His statement came in response to President Donald Trump’s announcement on Thursday that Iranian money controlled by the United States would be used to compensate for damage to ships, cargo and property caused during the conflict.The exchange came as the conflict continued to spread across the region. US Central Command said it had completed a 13th night of strikes on Iran, while Iranian media reported explosions in several cities, including Ahvaz, Bandar Abbas, Jask and Khorramabad. The order effectively reinstated the party’s former leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who led the CHP from 2010 to 2023 and lost a succession of elections against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Many in Turkey saw the ruling as politically motivated, aiming to weaken the main opposition after its historic success against Erdogan’s ruling party in the 2024 local elections under Ozel’s leadership. The New Party will immediately become parliament’s second-largest bloc behind President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), leaving the CHP with just 44 lawmakers.Political commentators say the split could simultaneously produce a more dynamic challenger to Erdogan and further fragment the opposition. Opinion polls suggest Ozel retains the backing of much of the CHP electorate, but critics say he has yet to articulate a sufficiently distinctive political vision or broaden his appeal among Kurdish, conservative and first-time voters. The parliamentary arithmetic's implications for Erdogan's AKP and its nationalist ally leave them short of the 360 votes required to call an early election, which could have provided him with a route around constitutional limits on another presidential term. Analysts are watching whether the weakened CHP or the pro-Kurdish DEM Party could supply the necessary votes. The Israeli military said troops were sent to the area after receiving reports that Israeli hikers had been attacked. It said a Palestinian seized a weapon from local security personnel and opened fire on the Israelis. Palestinian officials said the violence began when Israeli settlers attacked residents of Tal. They said four Palestinians were killed and four others wounded by gunfire from settlers and Israeli soldiers. Fatah official Essam Saifi said a group of 25 to 30 settlers tried to enter two homes on the eastern edge of the town, prompting residents to confront them. He said the settlers later returned to another part of Tal, where further clashes broke out before Israeli troops arrived and opened fire alongside the settlers. The Israeli military imposed temporary restrictions around Nablus and Tal, set up checkpoints and launched a search operation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to hold an emergency security meeting to discuss Israel’s response.Greece to acquire $4B Israeli air-defense systemDavid's Sling. — Israel Ministry of DefenseGreece’s top national security body has approved a planned procurement of Israeli air-defense systems worth up to $4 billion, advancing Athens’ effort to build its multilayered Achilles Shield network amid persistent tensions with Turkey. Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said Thursday that the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense gave final approval to the project, which is expected to become operational within 35 months. Greek companies will produce at least 25% of the system. The network is expected to combine Rafael’s SPYDER and David’s Sling systems with Israel Aerospace Industries’ Barak MX platform, giving Greece a range of interceptors against aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic threats. It would gradually replace aging Patriot and Russian-made S-300 batteries.
