US President Donald Trump also threatened Iranian power plants and bridges unless Tehran returned to negotiations, signaling that the campaign could expand beyond coastal missile, drone, naval and radar infrastructure.Iran responded by warning that continued US attacks and the renewed blockade could jeopardize energy exports across the Middle East. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, while Iranian attacks on commercial vessels have further disrupted shipping through the Strait Hormuz. Oil prices rose above $85 as concerns intensified over supplies through the waterway, which handled roughly one-fifth of global oil flows before the war.The escalation reflects a deeper dispute over what any revived agreement should accomplish. Washington appears to believe sustained military pressure can force Iran to reopen Hormuz and return to negotiations on US terms. Tehran increasingly argues that the war created a new regional balance that cannot be erased in a return to the prewar order.Renewed tensions in Yemen have raised fears that the Houthis could activate pressure around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, creating a second maritime front and further threatening global energy routes.Qatar, Pakistan and other regional countries continue efforts to revive negotiations, but talks are no longer setting the tempo. Both Washington and Tehran still describe escalation in terms of leverage rather than failure. The danger is that, as each side seeks to strengthen its eventual bargaining position, the battlefield becomes the only arena where either believes meaningful concessions can be won. Prosecutors accused the defendants of sharing information, videos and coordinates of strategic sites to assist current and future Iranian attacks. In separate cases, 10 others received prison terms of up to five years over alleged violence and sabotage during the strikes. Bahrain, home to the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, has cracked down on suspected Iranian networks since the US-Israel war with Iran began on Feb. 28. In May, a Turkish court annulled the Republican People's Party's 2023 congress over alleged irregularities and reinstated former leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. Ozel said that a new party might be formally launched in late July or early August. Critics describe the court ruling ousting Ozel as politically motivated, while the government insists Turkey’s judiciary is independent.
