The 32nd Annual Hot Rod Power Tour is underway and one of the stops for this year’s road tour along historic Route 66 is Joliet, IL. Unfortunately, there has already been some drama reported from the event, and it has nothing to do with drag times or other performance metrics.

As has been the case previously, car thieves are targeting Hot Rod Power Tour participants, and early Tuesday morning, several vehicles were stolen or damaged at area hotels.

Police are saying that three Chevrolet Corvettes and a Camaro were taken from the Holiday Inn property located at 1471 Rock Creek Boulevard. Meanwhile, A Chevrolet SS, a Dodge Challenger, and a Chevrolet Camaro were damaged but not stolen.

A Dodge Charger also suffered damage at a nearby Comfort Inn at 1520 Commerce Lane. Police found broken glass at the scene and believe the incidents are related.

Joliet’s News Radio station WJOL is saying that a total of nine vehicles were stolen from three different hotels in the Joliet area.

As police were investigating the thefts, they learned that one of the stolen Corvettes had been recovered after it was involved in a crash in nearby Dolton, IL. No driver was found at the scene.

A post on Facebook says one of these stolen cars was an Arctic White 2017 Z06. Tammara Frank writes, “My husband’s white 2017 Zo6 Corvette was stolen along with 8 other vehicles from 3 different hotels in Joliet, Illinois earlier this morning!! You may want to all sleep in your cars!!!!”

The annual HOT ROD Power Tour runs from June 8 through June 12. The event features thousands of classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars that are following the historic Route 66 highway on a five-day 8,000-mile road trip from Illinois to Oklahoma.
