It doesn’t matter that the paint was faded, weeds were growing fender high, or the interior was torn apart. A car can look abandoned, but that doesn’t make it free for the taking. Someone recently stole a 1967 Corvette convertible from Paoli, Oklahoma — and now the rightful owner’s family is asking the Corvette community for help.

The owner’s son posted on Corvette Forum, hoping someone might recognize the car if it shows up for sale or gets parted out. The plea is simple: “We’re hoping someone in the Corvette community may spot it or recognize it if someone tries to sell it or part it out.”

The stolen Corvette is hard to miss:

• 1967 Corvette convertible
• Orange exterior
• Blue interior
• Hardtop
• Arizona plate
• Non running condition

Because the car doesn’t run, the family fears it may already be dismantled — a heartbreaking possibility for any classic car owner.

Ironically, this same Corvette made the rounds online years ago. In 2020, Autoevolution shared photos of the car sitting on overgrown property, describing it as “a piece of American history” left at the mercy of the elements. The outlet noted that despite the rough condition, the car appeared to be a big block C2, making it far more valuable than its weathered exterior suggested.

The article pointed out that the car still wore its number plates and had enough intact bodywork to catch the attention of barn find hunters. One Instagram user even tagged Gas Monkey Garage, hoping the shop behind Fast N’ Loud might swoop in for a rescue.

But the car wasn’t abandoned. It belonged to someone — and still does.

Corvette Forum users didn’t mince words.

“It doesn’t matter if it decayed into the ground. It was the guy’s personal property, and taking it is theft, plain and simple,” wrote one member. Another added, “I don’t care how neglected it was, I hope they nab the lowlifes that took it.”

Classic car theft is unfortunately common, especially when a vehicle appears neglected or sits on rural property. Thieves often assume no one will notice — or care. But this family does, and so does the Corvette community.

The son asks anyone who spots these items to contact local police immediately:

• Orange C2 parts
• A mismatched blue interior
• A ’67 hardtop
• Or a suspiciously cheap big block C2 project

“If you believe you’ve found the Corvette or have credible information about its location, please contact law enforcement,” he wrote.

Neglected or not, this ’67 Corvette was someone’s pride once — and still someone’s property today. The family hopes that with enough eyes watching, the car might surface again.
