A video is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) with the claim that it shows a woman being assaulted by police officers and members of the Bajrang Dal after she allegedly abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Cockroach Janta Party protest. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows a woman assaulted by police and Bajrang Dal workers for abusing PM Modi during a CJP protest.

Fact: The video shows the aftermath of an alleged domestic violence incident at the family court in Varanasi, where a woman was allegedly assaulted by her husband on 16 July 2026. The incident was confirmed by media reports and the Varanasi Cantonment Police, which stated that the case pertains to a long-running marital dispute and is unrelated to any CJP protest or alleged assault by police or Bajrang Dal workers. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we conducted a Google keyword search but found no credible reports of a woman being assaulted by police officers and Bajrang Dal workers for allegedly abusing PM Modi during a CJP protest.

We then conducted a reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video, which led us to multiple media reports (here, here, and here) featuring the same visuals. According to these reports, the woman in the video was identified as Archana Mishra, who was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Akhand Upadhyay, at the family court in Varanasi on 16 July 2026. Mishra had arrived at the court for a hearing when an argument between the couple allegedly escalated into violence. She sustained injuries to her head, eye, lips, and other parts of her body, and alleged that her husband snatched her gold chain and locket during the assault. The viral video was recorded after the incident, showing her in distress. Reports further stated that a case was registered at the Cantt Police Station in Varanasi and that the altercation was captured on CCTV and by bystanders.

BOOM fact-check contacted the Cantonment Police Station in Varanasi. The Station House Officer (SHO) confirmed that the viral video pertains to a domestic dispute and clarified that the couple had been involved in a prolonged legal conflict spanning several years. The officer further stated that multiple cases related to the couple have been registered at different police stations.

To sum up, an unrelated video from U.P shared as proof of a woman being assaulted by police and Bajrang Dal workers for abusing PM Modi during the CJP protest.
