MMDA has temporarily removed Gabriel Go from clearing operations following allegations that he allegedly publicly humiliated a teacher.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has temporarily removed Special Operations Group (SOG) Head Gabriel Go from clearing operations while an investigation is ongoing.
The issue started after a video involving Go, and a public-school teacher gained widespread attention online. In the video, the teacher stopped driving a motorcycle without wearing a helmet, a violation of road safety rules.
During the encounter, Go reminded the teacher that educators are expected to set a good example for young people and follow the law at all times. The teacher admitted his mistake and apologized during the operation.
The educator also asked that he not be recorded or featured on social media. Despite the request, the interaction was still posted online, with assurances that the teacher’s identity would not be revealed and that his face would be blurred in the video. The teacher was later issued a fine for the violation.
Many users expressed concern about the manner in which the incident was handled. Several people felt that the teacher was unnecessarily embarrassed, even though his face was not clearly shown.
Theincident quickly sparked discussions about privacy, professionalism, and the proper conduct of government personnel during enforcement operations.
MMDA Chairman Don Artes confirmed that the agency had received a formal complaint as well as letters from different groups regarding the incident. Because of the growing public concern, the agency decided to place Go under investigation and temporarily remove him from field clearing activities.
The MMDA stated that Go has been ordered to explain his side through a formal written response. The agency assured the public that it is carefully reviewing the matter to determine whether any rules or policies were violated.
