From green flag to checkered, there’s something happening in almost every corner of San Diego this weekend.
With revving engines, locals and visitors were thrilled to join in on celebrating NASCAR San Diego weekend on Naval Base Coronado.
“Just being around the fans, the cars, and the noise, and the smells, it was a fun experience,” Gregory Dixon, a NASCAR fan said.
“My first time on base, I’m air force veteran, so when I wear this shirt, I get no end of grief, the Air Force, Navy, competition,” Steve Barnett, an Airforce Veteran said.
“It was a fun experience. Best experience I think I’ve experienced here in San Diego,” Dixon said.
While one corner of San Diego enjoyed the adrenaline of NASCAR soccer fans packed Shakespeare Pub in Middletown this weekend, joining World Cup watch parties to cheer on their national teams.
“It’s been like the best weekend possible here in San Diego,” Surielis Rodriguez said.
“You have good weather in San Diego and it’s always great for an outdoor event, right. So, yeah, it’s been great watching the world cup in San Diego.” Stephan Henrichs said.
Over at Petco Park, concert goers came out to enjoy NASCAR’s Country Fest inside Gallagher square.
“It’s absolutely a special Father’s Day weekend, excited to see George and everybody else in the line up,” Ryan Villarino said.
“Look at where we live, look at what we’re doing, and just having the honor to celebrate America and the spirit of racing in an active military base, and get a break and enjoy this and just people just being together, that is the best,” John Flint with John and Tammy’s San Diego’s Morning Show said.
“Country Music, NASCAR, motorcycles, San Diego, it’s great!” Steve Barnett said.
