UJAM have announced Detunicorn, a free collectable synthesizer plug-in designed to produce the thick, detuned hypersaw sounds heard in hyperpop, digicore and dance pop. Available as a limited-time Halloween release, the plug-in will be free to download and activate for 666 hours (just under 28 days!) after release on 21 October. Once activated, it can be used indefinitely.

The sound draws on the supersaw tones popularised by instruments such as the Roland JP-8000 and Nord Lead, pushing the concept towards denser layers and more pronounced processing. Detunicorn combines two supersaw oscillators with a sub-oscillator, with up to four unison layers that can be detuned and spread across the stereo field.

Detunicorn concentrates on creating large chords and stabs with a small set of dedicated controls. Unison adjusts the number of layers, Detune adds movement between them, and Sub controls the low-frequency part of the sound. Bend sets the decay time of an octave pitch envelope, Bite adds high-frequency emphasis, and Infinity introduces a large spatial reverb designed that has been specifically for the plug-in.

Detunicorn is free to download and activate for 666 hours after the release date on 21 October. Once activated within that period, the plug-in can be used indefinitely.

It supports VST2, VST3, AU and AAX formats on macOS and Windows.
