The Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green has been closed for the last three weeks due to a supplier parts issues, but for one popular add-on the delays will continue even after operations at BGAP resume this coming Monday.
The option we are talking about is the High Wing for the 2027 Corvette Stingray. For much of the 2027 model year, availability of the high wing has been touch and go. That started earlier in the model year as the standard Z51 wing was put constraint for several order cycles which then put more demand for the optional high wings. As orders for the Carbon Flash high wings increased, supplies dwindled. Most recently, Chevrolet footnoted the body-color versions as “Not available at this time” in the 2027 Corvette Order Guide as we believe GM was attempting to prioritize production of the more popular Carbon Flash versions.
The problem for dealers was compounded when even those customers who were able to successfully order a high Wing were then delayed in taking delivery of their new Stingrays because dealers were still waiting for the high wing to arrive from the suppliers. Some of the wait times have been a month or even longer, and we know some dealers were buying up whatever availability they could find at other dealers or the GM Parts Warehouses so they could complete the PDI of the Stingray before delivering it to their customer.

This morning, we heard that Chevrolet sent out a rare memo to its Corvette dealers about the high wing shortage and they are targeting mid-November as to when these orders for the two high wings will be fulfilled. Chevy says they will target those orders that have already been delivered first, with dealer inventory second, and then in-system vehicle orders third.
Here is a copy of the memo that was sent this morning:
Chevrolet Dealers,
We are providing an update regarding the current parts shortage affecting GM Accessories LPO High-Wing Spoilers, including:
• 5ZZ – High Wing Spoiler, Carbon Flash Metallic
• 5ZU – High Wing Spoilers, Red, Black, and White
Unfortunately, due to ongoing supplier quality issues, the previously communicated mid-October fulfillment timeline has changed. Based on current supply projections, we now expect all open orders to be fulfilled by mid-November.
We understand the challenges these delays create for your dealership and your customers. General Motors and our supplier are working diligently to restore normal supply and fulfill open orders as quickly as possible.
To ensure the most critical customer needs are addressed first, available inventory will continue to be prioritized in the following order:
1. Event Code 6000 — Reported Sold Vehicles
2. Event Code 5000 — Dealer Inventory Vehicles
We appreciate your partnership, patience, and continued support as we work through this situation.

In the memo, Chevrolet describes the issue as it being a quality issue and not a shortage due to lack of supplies, so there is that.
We’ve also heard from dealers that another major parts shortage they are facing has been the grille guard screens for the Grand Sport models.
Regardless, we were hoping that the three-week downtime would help alleviate these part supply issues, but what the plant really needs is a supplier with the capacity to fulfil the orders. Members of the Corvette Team keep telling us that the supply issues for the C8’s aero is almost solved, and yet Corvette buyers putting down their hard-earned cash still can’t seem to get the cars built the way they want.
Is that too much to ask?
