A woman with a knife attempted to attack a Capitol Police officer in Hartford on Wednesday morning, police say.
A Connecticut State Capitol Police officer was conducting a high-visibility patrol at the intersection of Armory Road and Michael J. Fallon Way around 6 a.m. when a woman approached his police cruiser.
Investigators said the woman, later identified as 34-year-old Tiera Latimer, attempted to stab him through the driver’s side window and continued stabbing at the window until the knife broke. According to officials, Latimer repeatedly screamed “Kill me” during the incident.
The officer was not injured.
After that, police said Latimer fled on foot. Officers pursued her and attempted to de-escalate the situation. According to authorities, Latimer also attempted to steal a police cruiser during the incident.
Officers deployed a Taser, and Latimer was taken into custody. Police said the woman was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Police have charged Latimer with criminal attempted assault on a public safety officer, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree threatening, second-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree attempted larceny.
Latimer was held on a $100,000 bond and is expected in court Thursday.
