Man accused of stalking and murdering woman he lived with in Middletown: Warrant

Дата публикации: 30-09-2026 05:24:03

A suspect in a homicide in Middletown has been arrested after being shot by officers in Hartford, according to police. He was arraigned on Wednesday on charges including murder and stalking.
Emergency crews responded to the Northwoods Apartments on Town Colony Drive in Middletown for a report of a suspicious death around 3:30 p.m. Investigators said a woman suffered a gunshot wound and was determined to be dead at the scene.
According to an arrest warrant, the woman who was killed seemed scared of 43-year-old Barrington Oneil Brown Jr. just hours before she was killed. Investigators believed Brown Jr. was motivated by jealousy and repeatedly monitored and surveilled the woman before shooting her, according to the warrant.
Four days before the shooting, someone reported a call from Brown Jr. to police indicating “if he couldn’t have her and their kids, then no one could and that he couldn’t live without her,” the warrant stated.
The warrant also said that police looked under the woman’s car and found a black box they believed was a GPS tracker. Family had told police that Brown Jr. was tracking the woman.
About 15 hours before the murder, investigators said the woman went to Mohegan Sun to meet with her boyfriend when she saw Brown Jr. at the hotel. According to the warrant, a witness told police that the woman “had previously talked about filing for a restraining order against brown, but did not feel like she had enough evidence for one to get issued,” and that she “appeared to be in fear after seeing Brown Jr.”
Detectives said they quickly identified Brown Jr. as the suspect in the shooting and developed probable cause for his arrest.
Middletown Police Department later put out a regional radio broadcast with information about a vehicle involved in a homicide in their city. Investigators said the vehicle’s license plate hit on an automated license plate reader, and officers responded to New Park Avenue in West Hartford.
Shortly after, officers found the vehicle, and authorities said they attempted a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle reportedly fled and initiated a pursuit.
Police deployed tire deflation devices, and investigators said the vehicle continued to flee onto Flatbush Avenue in Hartford.
The vehicle came to a stop on Flatbush Avenue where police said there was an exchange of gunfire between Brown Jr. and West Hartford officers.
Brown Jr. and another person were struck by gunfire and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. No West Hartford police officers were injured.
Authorities said Brown Jr. was taken to a medical facility and is being held by Middletown police pending an arraignment on charges of murder, stalking and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Brown Jr. had his bond set at $3 million on Wednesday. His next court date is Oct. 13.
The Connecticut Office of the Inspector General is investigating.
