4-year-old girl critically injured after being struck by Bridgeport police cruiser, city says

A 4-year-old girl was hospitalized with critical injuries after she was struck by a Bridgeport police cruiser that was responding to a call Wednesday night, according to the city’s public information officer.
The crash happened around 9:36 p.m. Wednesday night on Hanover street. The officer driving the cruiser was responding to a report of a mob attacking a woman at Went Field Park when the police cruiser struck the child., according to the city.
The girl, who lives with her family on Hanover Street, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital. She was most recently listed in critical but stable condition, the city said.
The Bridgeport Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. The regional Southern Fairfield County Traffic Unit also responded to conduct an independent investigation.
Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter visited the 4-year-old at the hospital, the city said.
“I am praying for the child’s full recovery,” Porter said in a statement. “The department’s thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. There will be a fully transparent, independent investigation.”
