Bridgeport police say a 34-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot outside of a birthday party on Benham Avenue Saturday night.
“Shortly after 9:00 p.m. the Bridgeport Police Department’s ShotSpotter system detected 20 gunshots on Benham Avenue,” police said. “Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a person had been shot in front of a house there.
According to police, officers arrived on scene and found the victim with a gunshot wound in the back of his shoulder.
The victim was transported to the hospital and listed as critical condition.
“Witnesses reported the victim was standing in crowd that included children outside of the birthday party, when a car drove by and the shots were fired,” police said.
The street was closed until around 11:30 p.m. and the investigation is still ongoing and handled by the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Albert Palatiello at (203) 581-5226.
