A man is recovering after he was shot while standing outside of a birthday party in Bridgeport on Friday night, according to police.
Investigators said 911 callers reported hearing gunshots near the intersection of Wood Avenue and Grove Street shortly after 10 p.m. There was also a ShotSpotter activation at the location.
Once in the area, police said they found four parked cars struck by gunfire.
Minutes later, a person who was driving a man who had been shot to St. Vincent’s Hospital saw an ambulance and police cars several blocks away at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Grand Street and stopped there, authorities said. The medics checked the victim and drove him to St. Vincent’s Hospital by ambulance.
Police said the 23-year-old victim told police he was from Hamden and had been at a birthday party at a house on Grove Street. He was reportedly standing outside with his back to the street when he was hit by a shot from a passing car.
He suffered an injury to his lower extremities, investigators said. He was listed in stable condition.
The shooting remains under investigation.
