We use "Partial Mirror (OS Configured)" Memory Mirroring Mode for 2 years now with Gen11 server and VMware ESXi to protect the hypervisor, we do not use it to mirror VM memory (we had too many PSODs because of memory issues). Now we got out first DL380Gen12 server and "Partial Mirror (OS Configured)" is not working anymore. "Full" mode still works and shows expected 50% of the physical memory in ESXi as usable. But in Partial Mirror (OS Configured) ESXi always show 0 bytes. There is nothing that needs/can be configured in ESXi, it just uses what is reported by the server. VMware support pointed at HPE support and HPE support than first pointed back at VMware. Now my case is at 2nd level but without much progress. I did not find anything in the docs that the behaviour has changed (Configuring the memory mirroring mode | HPE UEFI System Utilities User Guide for HPE Compute Gen12 servers based on iLO7).## DL380Gen11, PartialOsConfig, working as expected# esxcli hardware memory getPhysical Memory: 2196549619712 BytesReliable Memory: 2147483648 Bytes <------- expected RAM used by HypervisorNUMA Node Count: 4 ## DL380Gen12, PartialOsConfig, not working# ilorest --nologo get MemMirrorMode --select=Bios. --url=xxxx --user xxxxx --password xxxxxDiscovering data...DoneMemMirrorMode=PartialOsConfig# esxcli hardware memory getPhysical Memory: 2198789345280 BytesReliable Memory: 0 Bytes <------- unexpectedNUMA Node Count: 4## DL380Gen12, Full Mirror, working# ilorest --nologo get MemMirrorMode --select=Bios. --url=xxxx--user xxxxx --password xxxxxDiscovering data...DoneMemMirrorMode=Full# esxcli hardware memory getPhysical Memory: 1099277717504 BytesReliable Memory: 1099276087296 Bytes <---------- 50%NUMA Node Count: 4Outside my HPE suport case I received following feedback from a HPE employee, which I do not fully understand. Only thing I can tell, PartialOSConfig is not working with any of our Gen12 servers anymore, neither DL380 nor DL320. I also tried Partial Mirror (Memory below 4GB) mode but this results in PSOD in ESXi, as it already did with Gen11 servers. From our HPE RBSU menu, a default value 0 is set when user changes the memory mirror mode to OS control. And the rule keeps no change from Gen11 to Gen12.However, Intel RC code in Gen11 would apply a minimum memory mirror size (around 1G per CPU) when the value is 0,but keeps the size as zero in Intel Gen12 RC code. That's the reason how the difference came from in the command output. We are expecting that both cases won't stop customers to apply any changes from OS.That is, no matter what the default memory mirror size be applied, suppose customer should still be able to change the memory mirror size in OS once they are selecting OS control mode (and suppose the setting should be applied from OS since OS control mode had been selected).
