The latest addition to Sennheiser’s Spectera range is now shipping, completing the core elements of the company’s bidirectional wideband wireless ecosystem. The Spectera SKM handheld transmitter introduces a premium handheld option that can be fitted with a wide range of mic capsules, and caters to a wide range of applications including professional live sound, theatre, broadcast and worship. 

Powered by Sennheiser’s WMAS technology, the Spectera family addresses many of the typical challenges faced by users of wireless systems. The Spectera SKM combines Sennheiser’s renowned sound quality with the flexibility and control of the Spectera ecosystem, delivering ultra-low-latency wireless audio while providing the continuous monitoring, remote configuration and operational visibility required by modern productions.

All of the system’s monitoring and control data uses the same RF wideband channel as the audio data, meaning that a separate wireless control network is not required. The Spectera handheld transmitter maintains continuous bidirectional communication with the Base Station, enabling engineers to monitor battery status, RF performance, audio levels, signal strength and link quality in real time while remotely adjusting parameters such as gain and low-cut.

Available in both UHF and 1.4GHz variants, the Spectera SKM delivers latency figures as low as 1ms. It takes full advantage of Sennheiser’s wideband WMAS technology, so instead of adding an individual receiver channel and coordinating a separate narrowband frequency for each additional handheld, engineers can simply add the SKM as another device within the Spectera RF environment. The SKM also shares the same BA 70 or BA 70 2.2 rechargeable battery with the Spectera SEK bodypack, and features robust metal construction, AES-256 encryption and an onboard OLED display.
