Ghost Kits, a media technology company focused on connectivity for video and photo workflows, has introduced new features for Specter, its patent-pending wireless device for media production. Specter supports major Wi-Fi-enabled camera models and enables media transfer from camera to post teams, including remote editors and agencies.

The new features — Smart Network Switching, Network Bonding and 5G/Wi-Fi 6E support — expand Specter’s connectivity capabilities across film, television, broadcast and live production environments, including remote or signal-constrained conditions.

Smart Network Switching
Specter’s Smart Network Switching automatically steers to the optimal cellular network when performance degrades, reducing the need for manual SIM swapping required by traditional hotspots. Multi-IMSI technology provides access to more than 600 mobile carriers across over 190 countries without user intervention.

Smart Network Switching is protected by a non-provisional patent filed in 2025.

Network Bonding
Specter aggregates multiple network interfaces — cellular, Wi-Fi and Ethernet — into a single connection, providing increased bandwidth, redundancy and fault tolerance. Where local Wi-Fi is available, the system combines it with cellular to increase throughput while helping to manage data usage. Ghost Kits’ network bonding services operate on an international server infrastructure.

5G Architecture and Wi-Fi 6E Support
Specter’s updated 5G architecture offers theoretical upload speeds of up to 900Mb/sec — approximately 18 times faster than its 4G predecessor. Full Wi-Fi 6E support across the 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands addresses bandwidth constraints in dense production environments. Ghost Kits says this can reduce transfer times for high-resolution media.

Hardware Enhancements
New hardware updates include tripod mount support in addition to camera mounts, along with V-mount compatibility and five ¼”-20 mounting points.

Ports and Power: Ethernet, dual USB-C (power plus passthrough charging), hot-swappable NP-F lithium-ion battery, power switch.

Wi-Fi 6E: Tri-band 2×2 MIMO (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), 574Mb/sec at 2.4GHz, 1.2 Gb/sec at 5/6GHz.

Cellular: 5G NR SA with global frequency band support, 2.4Gb/sec download, 900Mb/sec upload (network-dependent).

Mounting: Supports industry-standard ¼”-20 mounting hardware.

All Specter hardware subcomponents carry individual FCC certifications, meeting compliance standards for broadcast and enterprise deployment.
