There was an unusual combination of events taking place in Windrush Square last Sunday, with the main area being dominated by what could only be described as a circular line dance.

Standing in the middle of the square next to a large gold cross was a group of musicians singing upbeat songs, with a ‘hallelujah’ chorus that seemed to go on forever (not the  Leonard Cohen version).

A large chunk of the square was taken over for the religious line dance.

There was a different kind of celebration going on nearby, with muscley blokes flexing their ample biceps and congratulating each other on  their fitness levels, with some enthusiastic whooping for a particularly strenuous workout.

We’ve been photographing the street preachers of Brixton for over quarter of a century.

They come in all shapes and sizes. Some give hope, some sing some nice songs, some paint a bleak future for us all, while some spread homophobia and racism.
