Mundo Chile began as a small telecommunications company born in the rural towns of the Concepción region in southern Chile. While most internet service providers focus on metropolitan areas first, Mundo took a counterintuitive approach: they prioritized connecting underserved, rural communities before expanding northward to capital cities.
This was a bold strategy in Chile’s fiercely competitive broadband market, a unique landscape where eight different providers hold over 3% market share and national Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks were established well before the pandemic. By building a strong foundation in a less contested region, Mundo bypassed early barriers and captured significant market share before finally entering Santiago.
Their mission to ensure disconnected towns had the exact same technology as major cities did not just transform their own business; it elevated the entire nation. Because of this localized focus, the region where Mundo first launched is now one of the few places globally where rural median speeds actually outpace urban ones, laying the groundwork for Chile to emerge as a global connectivity leader. To validate their bold strategy and prove both their network quality and Chile’s connectivity on the world stage, Mundo turned to Ookla for independent, transparent data.

SituationMundo was built on the strategy to bring connectivity and technology to families who need it most, starting in rural Chile. As they expanded into these overlooked areas, they backed their mission with aggressive infrastructure modernization and a drive to deploy next-generation technology.
This was achieved despite Chile’s unique physical and economic hurdles. Unlike smaller nations or those with government-subsidized networks, Chile relies heavily on private investment to bridge an extreme geography of deserts, mountains, and vast distances. Even so, Mundo’s entrance and competitive pricing forced the entire market to adapt. This ripple effect dramatically improved the national infrastructure, helping elevate Chile into the top five fastest countries globally for fixed broadband over the last several years.
As Mundo transitioned from a regional player to a global competitor, they set their sights on a massive goal: proving their network and Chile’s overall connectivity were the fastest in the world. They required an independent, authoritative source to validate their performance, build transparency, and confirm to their customers they were delivering the absolute best speeds possible.
