David Silveria is an American musician who has a net worth of $1 million. Silveria is best known as the original drummer of Korn, playing on the band's first seven studio albums during its rise from the Bakersfield underground to one of the most successful rock acts of the late 1990s and early 2000s. His drumming helped establish Korn's distinctive rhythmic sound, mixing heavy rock with elements of funk and hip-hop while working closely with bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu.
Silveria performed on albums including "Korn," "Life Is Peachy," "Follow the Leader," "Issues," "Untouchables," "Take a Look in the Mirror," and "See You on the Other Side." He also shares songwriting credits on much of Korn's classic material, including "Freak on a Leash." Those credits have continued to generate royalties long after his departure from the group.
Despite Korn's enormous success, Silveria's post-band finances became complicated. He filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2015 amid millions of dollars in secured debts and later became involved in lengthy litigation with his former Korn bandmates over royalties and his financial interest in the group. The dispute was eventually settled on undisclosed terms.
Early LifeDavid Randall Silveria was born on September 21, 1972, in San Leandro, California, and grew up in Bakersfield.
Still a teenager, Silveria joined the band L.A.P.D., which also included future Korn members James "Munky" Shaffer and Fieldy. Following the collapse of L.A.P.D., the musicians continued together, eventually adding guitarist Brian "Head" Welch and vocalist Jonathan Davis.
The resulting group became Korn in 1993.
KornSilveria was only in his early 20s when Korn released its self-titled debut album in 1994. His drumming became an important component of the group's sound. Rather than relying exclusively on traditional metal beats, Silveria incorporated grooves influenced by funk and hip-hop, helping Korn's rhythm section sound markedly different from the thrash and hard-rock bands that preceded it.
"Life Is Peachy" followed in 1996. Korn then reached superstar status with "Follow the Leader" in 1998. The album debuted at #1 in the United States and featured "Got the Life" and "Freak on a Leash." "Issues" followed in 1999 and also debuted at #1.
Silveria continued performing on "Untouchables," "Take a Look in the Mirror," and "See You on the Other Side." During his tenure, Korn became a major arena and festival attraction and sold tens of millions of records.
In 2005, after Head had left the group, Silveria was one of Korn's four remaining active members when the band entered a broad partnership with EMI. The agreement reportedly paid Korn about $15 million upfront while giving EMI a share of the band's publishing, touring, merchandise, and record profits.
Silveria stepped away from Korn in 2006. What initially appeared to be a hiatus ultimately became permanent. Ray Luzier later became Korn's full-time drummer.

After leaving Korn, Silveria became involved in the restaurant business in Southern California. He and his then-wife owned Tuna Town, a sushi restaurant in Huntington Beach. He was later associated with other restaurant and bar ventures.
Silveria eventually resumed performing. His post-Korn bands have included Infinika, Core 10, and Breaking in a Sequence, also known as BIAS.
None of those projects approached Korn's commercial scale, but Silveria continued working as a drummer years after leaving the group.
Korn LawsuitIn 2015, Silveria sued his former Korn bandmates. He claimed that he remained entitled to an ownership interest in the Korn partnership and sought an accounting of money earned after his departure as well as damages for alleged unpaid royalties.
The dispute became increasingly complicated over the following years, including additional disagreements involving royalty payments. Korn and Silveria ultimately settled their litigation in 2020. The financial terms of the settlement were not made public.
Silveria's songwriting credits on music created during his Korn years have remained an important source of income.
Bankruptcy and Financial ProblemsSilveria filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2015. His filings provide an unusually detailed look at the finances of a former member of a highly successful rock band.
Court records showed that his Korn royalty payments at the time were running at less than $10,000 per month. He also carried approximately $2.5 million in secured obligations stemming from two mortgages, tax liens, and judgment liens.
The bankruptcy case was dismissed in November 2015 after Silveria failed to pay required U.S. Trustee fees and failed to prosecute the case.
The combination of debt, legal expenses, years away from Korn's touring income, and relatively modest monthly royalty checks dramatically reduced the fortune Silveria accumulated during Korn's commercial peak. His eventual settlement with the band and his continuing interest in the classic Korn catalog provide him with ongoing assets and income, but his public financial history indicates a substantially smaller fortune than those of the original members who remained active with Korn.
