There have been quite a lot of questions submitted to Andrea Rossi recently regarding the fact that the E-Cat NGU SSM is now described by him as producing AC electricity. Previously it was advertised as producing DC at 12 volts.

Some people have expressed to him their preference for a DC version and are hoping that will be an option if and when the E-Cat comes to market. Rossi’s response to the question is consistently that if people want DC they can easily apply an inverter to convert from AC to DC.

Sure, Andrea, but why step up to AC and then step down to DC? That means double power loss—albeit slight—plus extra bulk and cost. I repeat: a 12V 100W DC output is what a great many peoples wants. Leave the voltage and amperage conversion issues to the users; the fewer problems you have to deal with, the better.

The application of an inverter has a slightly minor efficiency, but it will be necessary for the time being, during which only 230 AC will be delivered.

I think that the reason for this AC only decision must have something to do with the solution that Rossi and his partner have come up with to make SSM work reliably. When Rossi announced that they have come up with a solution for SSM he started saying that the E-Cat would output AC. If the E-Cat produces DC natively there has to be a reason for the decision to go with AC. He has not explained why this is the case. Today he stated: ” The reason is confidential, so far.”
