STAFFORD, Va. — A man found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle outside a Stafford County McDonald’s is facing multiple charges after deputies said they discovered suspected drugs, a weapon and drug paraphernalia during their investigation.
The incident occurred at about 9:17 a.m. Thursday at 419 Chatham Heights Road.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to a report of a person asleep on the steering wheel of a vehicle in the restaurant’s parking lot.
When the deputy made contact with the driver, investigators said the man displayed signs of impairment, including a drowsy demeanor and unsteady balance.
Deputies also reported seeing drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
The driver, identified as 46-year-old Daryl Claiborne of Bowling Green, allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests.
During the investigation, deputies said they recovered a weapon, suspected narcotics and other items from the vehicle.
Authorities also determined Claiborne was on probation, resulting in additional charges.
