Microsoft is planning to bring Xbox 360 games to PC. That's according to a leaked document viewed by The Verge. The document, which the company recently sent to developers, reportedly says they will be able to bring their Xbox 360 games to PC.

More specifically, the intention is for 360 games to work on "Xbox PCs" - which likely refers to any PC that runs the Xbox app. This would include handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally. The document also says games will run on Project Helix, the next generation Xbox.

According to the report, developers will be able to toggle backwards compatibility on for their games, and they will get to make them available for purchase, set prices and decide whether or not to include them in Game Pass. Microsoft will be rolling out the feature gradually between 2027 and 2028 "across next-gen devices".

Microsoft, of course, recently announced it's bringing original Xbox games to PC. That feature is instead targeting an October 2026 launch, according to The Verge.

The document also addresses recently leaked plans that Microsoft is working on a way for players to turn their physical game collection to digital. The digitisation feature initially came to light following Sony's decision to end physical PlayStation discs. While Microsoft has yet to officially announce a similar plan, Project Helix is expected to launch without a disc drive.

The feature will allow owners of Xbox One and Series game discs to insert them into either console to get a digital copy. That digital license is bound to both the user's account as well as the disc itself, meaning the disc can be shared, at which point the license will transfer to the new person.

The disc-to-digital feature was seemingly previously set to debut in beta form last month, with an official launch this month. That has yet to happen, however, so it appears the timeline has shifted.

Making original Xbox and Xbox 360 games available on PC is obviously good for everyone, but it also lines up with Microsoft's stated plans for Project Helix: the next-gen console is capable of playing PC games. We still don't know how this is going to work, but assuming Helix runs a modified version of Windows, it would make a lot of sense for older Xbox titles to be playable in that environment.
