Coal India on Monday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 8,852 crore for the first quarter of the ongoing financial year 2027, a less-than 1% year-on-year (YoY) rise from Rs 8,797 crore reported in the year-ago period.
Sequentially however, the PSU company’s net profit dropped more than 18% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) from Rs 10,839 crore reported in the fourth quarter of FY26.
Revenue from operations meanwhile stood at Rs 46,255 crore in Q1 FY27, marking a 8% YoY increase from Rs 42,919 crore in Q1 FY26, but a slight decline from Rs 46,490 crore reported in Q4 FY26.
Coal India’s total income rose more than 8% YoY to Rs 48,295 crore, while total expenses increased around 12% YoY to Rs 36,816 crore in the first quarter of the ongoing financial year 2027.
Segment wise, its coal segment saw an 8% YoY rise in revenue to Rs 46,249 crore, while its solar energy segment posted a revenue of Rs 5.68 crore in the June quarter. Its earnings per share (EPS) stood at Rs 14.36 in Q1 FY27, as against Rs 14.27 in Q1 FY26 and Rs 17.59 in Q4 FY26.
Along with the Q1 earnings, Coal India declared an interim dividend of Rs 5.50 per share for the ongoing financial year 2027. The record date to determine the eligibility of shareholders set to receive the payment has been fixed on July 31.
The said dividend will be paid to the eligible shareholders on or before August 25 this year. The company has so far declared 33 dividends since February 2011, and the stock has a dividend yield of 6.18% at the current market price, according to data on Trendlyne.
Coal India share priceCoal India announced its earnings in the post-market hours of Monday. The shares of the company closed nearly unchanged at Rs 427 apiece, falling nearly 1% in a week and 2% in a month. The stock is overall up around 7% in 2026 so far.
In the longer term, Coal India shares have risen over 12% in one year, 86% in three years and nearly 200% in five years. The company currently has a market capitalisation of more than Rs 2.63 lakh crore.
