While the Baltimore band expand their musical reach, their pivots occasionally feel frustratingly half-hearted.


Turnstile is not the first, and surely not last, hardcore punk band to capitalize on their increasing popularity by expanding their musical reach. And while such pivots are admirable, the Baltimore five-piece does no more than raise their highly emotive sound even further -- and with that comes an outpouring of cloying sentimentality. Your mileage may vary, of course, but declarations such as “Never let your guard down/Anywhere you go” aren't necessarily novel.
