The Ringgold Playhouse kicks off its summer slate of shows with the hilarious, multi-generational comedy "Nana’s Naughty Knickers."
The play, written by Katherine DiSavino, follows the hysterical melting pot of laughs that arise when a college law student (Alana McGaughey) moves in with her sweet, quirky Nana (Kim Jenkins) for the summer, only to find out that “Nana” is running a secret boutique out of her apartment in order to supply senior citizens with handmade naughty undergarments.
Under the direction of Kimberly Tyner Jones and stage management of Becky Byrns, the two-act comedy blends the humor of family dynamics with the farcical nature of running an underground boutique for the elderly.
“It’s just a funny show with a cast of superbly talented performers,” said TRP Executive Director Adam Cook.
“The premise is funny in itself – a grandmother making underground knickers for the other older folks in her community, but the lengths she goes to in order to hide it and make a racket out of it – it’s hilarious.”
In addition to Ms. McGaughey and Ms. Jenkins playing the duo of “Bridget” and her “Nana Sylvia,” the cast is rounded out by TRP veterans Kitty Reel (Clair), Day Lyons (Mr. Schmidt), Chris Valenzuela (Tom the Cop), Alice Carbaugh (Vera), Isaiah Smith (UPS Man), Chris Ayers (Voice / Other UPS Man) and Bella Griffith (Heather Van Pree).
Now in the company’s 13th full season, TRP continues to celebrate its new venue at 7847 Nashville Street in downtown Ringgold, just a few doors down from the Historic Depot it used for the first 12 years of the company.
“We love the new building, and we hope everyone will come out and have some laughs with us in our new digs,” Mr. Cook said. “We’re continuing to upgrade the building and make it as welcoming as possible for our audiences. It’s been such an exciting time at TRP and this show fits perfectly inside the walls of this historic building.”
“Nana’s Naughty Knickers’ will run for six total performances over two weekends June 19 and 28. Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. June 19, 20, 26 and 27, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. June 21 & 28.
Tickets for the show are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors/students/military. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at https://our.show/knickerstrp.
