Waterspout Formed Over Sea of Negros Oriental Amid Typhoon Inday

A waterspout was spotted formed over the sea of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental amid the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Inday.

Around 6:35 a.m. on July 10, 2026, residents found a waterspout in the waters near Guba, Pasil, and the town proper of Sta. Catalina.

Recently, Manwel Barrot, a Facebook user, shared a video of waterspout while Negros Oriental was experiencing continuous rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat, which has been strengthened by Typhoon Inday.

Since early morning, many parts of the province had been affected by cloudy skies and periods of heavy rain.

According to PAGASA, waterspouts develop from thunderstorm clouds. They form when warm air rising from the surface meets cooler air descending from above, creating a rotating motion in the atmosphere. When this rotation strengthens over a body of water, it can develop into a waterspout.

Although waterspouts are often compared to tornadoes because of their spinning appearance, they usually occur over water and often weaken once they reach land. Even so, they can still pose risks to small boats, fishermen, and coastal communities if they become stronger or move closer to shore.

Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were immediately reported following the incident. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation while keeping a close watch on the weather conditions affecting the province.

Officials are reminding residents, especially those living near the coast and those who depend on the sea for their livelihood, to remain alert and stay updated on the latest weather advisories.

The authorities urge the public to take necessary precautions and prioritize safety as unstable weather conditions persist across the region.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the post
