United stay unbeaten in Europe

By Harry Bamforth

Right then, it's time for me to wrap things up.

I know, I know, I wish I could stay with all of you for as long as possible, but sadly, it's just not the case.

It was another decent night for the English sides in Europe, well, unless you re a Tottenham fan.

Manchester United managed a draw away at Real Sociedad, despite leading, as things are poised perfectly ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford.

That doesn't tell the whole story. The Bruno Fernandes handball that led to the penalty for Real Sociedad's equaliser felt harsh, to say the least.

But I guess those are the rules.

Meanwhile, Chelsea take a one-goal lead to Stamford Bridge after beating Copenhagen 2-1 in their own backyard.

However, fellow Londoners Tottenham did not quite have such a good time as they were beaten by AZ Alkmaar.

As Bon Jovi sings, though, we are only halfway there.

Anyway, I am now going to head off for a nice cuppa, I advise you all to go and do the same.

I will see you all soon. Thanks for joining.

Tottenham in trouble?

By Harry Bamforth

Oh dear, Tottenham are in trouble again.

And by that, I mean they look like they could head out of another cup competition, not that they have done anything wrong in the eyes of the law.

It was supposed to be a positive night with all the players returning to action and the feel-good factor coming with them.

Well, those Spurs fans will be feeling pretty pants right now.

Tottenham just didn't turn up. In fact, AZ Alkmaar played them off the park for large parts of that game.

I would usually suggest that Spurs could overturn a one-goal deficit against a team such as AZ, but I'm actually not sure this time.

If they play anything close to that next week at home, there is no way they'll make it through.

Ange Postecoglou has a lot of work to do.

United show their gratitude

By Harry Bamforth

This is always good to see.

Manchester United fans have been put through a lot this season, but they always turn up everywhere to show their support.

You could hear them all through the night chanting away, and the players have gone over to show some gratitude.

Now those supporters can go and have a cracking night in San Sebastian, which doesn't sound too bad for me.

Well, unless some have work tomorrow, which I very much doubt.

Zirkzee gets his moment

By Harry Bamforth

I want to talk about a certain Joshua Zirkzee.

The Dutchman has come under a serious amount of criticism this season, and rightly so.

I mean, I have been one of the journalists to give him that criticism.

Tonight, though, I think he deserves some praise for his performance; he was brilliant.

Not only did he score, but his movement and willingness to get on the ball were superb in that second half.

If he can play like that more often, United may just start to cause more problems high up the pitch.

Consistency has always been the problem, mind.

'Before the game, United would have taken draw'

By Harry Bamforth

Paul Scholes, former Man United midfielder, on TNT Sports:

It is a good result. Before the game you would have taken a draw; they weren’t the greatest of teams. A draw is probably a good result with the chances that Sociedad may have been slightly more disappointed.

WATCH: Oyarzabal levels from the spot

By Harry Bamforth

Right, we have to turn straight to this goal.

I will get to the controversy behind it later, but it's a fabulous penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal.

For some reason, I had a feeling Andre Onana would save it, but my word was I wrong.

This has left things perfectly poised for next week.

FULL-TIME: Real Sociedad 1-1 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

It finishes all square in San Sebastian!

Manchester United survive a late surge from Real Sociedad to take the initiative ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford.

It could have been ol' so different had Bruno Fernandes's handball not controversially led to a penalty.

But that's football, eh?

FULL-TIME: AZ Alkmaar 1-0 Spurs

By Harry Bamforth

Tottenham lose in Alkmaar.

Ange Postecoglou's side fail to turn up on the big stage again as a Lucas Bergvall own goal leaves them with a lot fo work to do.

The injury curse also seems to have struck again as returning Dominic Solanke was forced off toward the end there.

A bad night all around for Spurs.

BIG SAVE! Real Sociedad 1-1 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Andre Onana to the rescue!

The Manchester United goalkeeper may has just kept this tie level heading into the second leg.

Orri Oskarsson arrows a strike at goal, and Onana does brilliantly to get a hand to it.

That was the moment for the hosts.

FULL-TIME: Copenhagen 0-0 Chelsea

By Harry Bamforth

Chelsea hold on!

The Blues took a valuable lead back to Stamford Bridge after a much better second half.

They were given a scare late on, but they are very much in control of this tie.

A good night for Enzo Maresca's men.

SUBSTITUTION: AZ Alkmaar 1-0 Spurs

By Harry Bamforth

Oh dear, oh dear...

Dominic Solanke is forced off with his back problem; that's not good at all.

He is being helped around the pitch after being replaced by Dane Scarlett.

Spurs can't catch a break, and neither can Solanke.

AZ Alkmaar 1-0 Spurs

By Harry Bamforth

This does not look good for Dominic Solanke.

On his return to action, the striker seems to have done some more damage and looks in agony.

He is currently rolling around on the ground as I type this and looks in severe pain down there.

Ange Postecoglou probably can't believe his luck...
