Chelsea complete set

European champions, again.

Now, this may only be the Conference League, but it's still a very credible piece of silverware. So, son't poop on Chelsea's party.

They have now completed the full UEFA set - the first club to achieve that feat.

For 65 minutes, it looked like Real Betis were going to create their own piece of history thanks to Abde Ezzalzouli.

They were all over Chelsea; the Blues could barely string a few passes together. They were outrun and couldn't get a grip on the game.

Well, until Reece James came on.

The Chelsea captain changed the game, and his introduction allowed Cole Palmer to shine.

Chelsea didn't just come back, but they absolutely battered Betis after the break, netting four goals in 26 minutes.

Anyway, I now have to dash. Thank you for joining me on another night of drama.

Goodnight!

'Chelsea should sign Sancho'

Michail Antonio, West Ham forward, speaking on TNT Sports:

I think Chelsea should sign Jadon Sancho. He has been an important factor to the squad, and in parts of the season he has been the catalyst for the team. I think he would be a good signing and would help them to keep pushing next season and what is to come.

Pellegrini: 'The players are devastated'

Manuel Pellegrini, Real Betis boss, speaking post-match:

What happened in the second half? We played a great first half; we scored a goal, we had a couple more clear chances, but in the second half we were affected by injuries. The fans have been incredible during the game and even after. This is what hurts us most: not being able to give them this title.
We have qualified for Europe next season but I have to say injuries today really caused us problems. Against a team as powerful as Chelsea, that's always going to hurt you. How do the players feel? They are devastated. We couldn't maintain what we did in the first half.

'Palmer showcased his class'

Jack Gaughan, Mail Sport:

Cole Palmer showcased his pure class. Kept coming really deep to pick up possession in attempting to impact the game, and eventually ended up with two exquisite assists.

Palmer the provider

Yes, I am writing about the Cole Palmer again.

The man was just majestic today, so he deserves a lot of praise, don't you think?

Palmer is the first player to assist twice in the final of a major European competition since Marcelo for Real Madrid against Liverpool in the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League.

Considering he did diddly squat in the first 45 minutes, I think it makes it even more impressive.

Back to his best.

Maresca: 'We approached the game wrong'

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea boss, speaking to TNT Sports:

I am very happy. I was a little bit frustrated in the first half because I think we approached the game in the wrong way. Also I expected a little bit, the happiness was a bit too much after Nottingham Forest because you go all season waiting and waiting [to achieve Champions League]. So we struggled a bit first half, second half we were much better and now we are very happy.
The message after Nottingham Forest was, 'Guys if we want to be an important team then what we have done is done and we have to win the final.' But it's the happiness, the tiredness, because we had 48 hours less than them, they played on Friday for nothing, we played on Sunday for a big, big target. So I expected it a little bit. In the second half, we played much better.

WATCH: Antony reacts to defeat

It just wasn't Antony's night.

After all the bigging up we gave him, the Brazilian fell flat on his face when playing a decent defence.

Sound familiar?

OK, maybe I am being harsh, but Antony really didn't show up today. The only thing I remember him doing was throwing his toys out of the pram. Also sound familiar, United fans?

As you can see, his anger turned to agony. He looks gutted.

Fernandez follows in Moore's footsteps

I have just seen this stat, and it's blown my mind.

For some reason, in my head, Enzo Fernandez is a 28-year-old bloke, or maybe even older.

He just gives me older energy on the pitch. Is it just me?

Well, the Argentine is in fact 24 years and 131 days, and he has just put his name down in history.

Fernandez is the second-youngest starting captain ever to lead an English club to win a major European final, only older than Bobby Moore in the 1964-65 Cup Winners' Cup for West Ham.

Crazy, isn't it?

'Palmer turned it on'

Just as the first trophy of Chelsea's BlueCo era was slipping away, and they were fearing how critics would remind them there were more than a billion reasons why they should never have lost the Conference League, Cole Palmer turned it on like the great ones can.
They were his two crosses in the 65th and 70th minutes, which turned this final on its head and in doing so, Palmer ensured Chelsea’s collection was complete.
They are the European Grand Slammers. They have won it all, every competition they have ever entered under UEFA. It looked unlikely at 1-0 down, with Manuel Pellegrini having outsmarted his former protégé Enzo Maresca up until Palmer activated ‘Cold’ mode.

WATCH: Crowning moment for Chelsea

Here you go, Chelsea fans.

I know that for those of you who missed the game, you will want to watch this video.

Sadly, it didn't show every player getting their medal because that part was quite weird. Read my earlier post to see why.

But anyway, enjoy Blues.

Colwill: 'We have achieved everything we wanted to do'

Levi Colwill, Chelsea defender, speaking to TNT Sports:

To be the first club to have won everything possible, you can see the fans celebrating now and it shows how much it means to them. We knew they were going to be a good team, especially at the start with their fans pushing them on, but we knew it was going to die off. We just had to wait and pick our moments and that is what we did in the second half.
Watching from the bench you can see where the spaces are and how you can help the team. When I came on for Benny [Badiashile] I could see he was working so hard and then the gaps were open. He did that for me, laid the foundations for me.
It has been amazing. We have achieved everything we wanted to do. It feels amazing winning my first European competition with Chelsea, hopefully many more to go. And getting Champions League for next season, I don't think you can get any better than that.
