
Chef Erik Cielo
Kals Restaurant Group announces Chef Erik Cielo as its new executive culinary director. Chef Erik will guide culinary development across the Kals Group family of restaurants, while also serving as executive chef of Torikaya, the group’s upcoming modern Japanese concept opening soon near Warehouse Row in downtown Chattanooga.
Chef Erik is a second-generation chef with global experience spanning the U.S., Mexico, Spain and Dubai. Trained under Master Sushi Chef Katsuya Uechi, he later became executive chef and partner at Hatch Yakitori in Los Angeles, where he built a following for his inventive approach to Japanese grilling.
As Torikaya nears opening day, Chef Erik is shaping a modern Japanese experience for downtown Chattanooga, rooted in yakitori and guided by the craft he honed around the world.
“Chef Erik is a great addition to our team,” said Carlos Kal, owner of Kals Restaurant Group. “His talent is obvious in the first bite of any of his dishes, but what matters just as much to me is how he leads. He is humble, he cooks with heart and he truly cares about his team. We are excited for Chattanooga to meet him through Torikaya, and to feel his influence across all of our restaurants.”
Officials said, "As executive culinary director, Chef Erik will collaborate across the group’s restaurants, including Zaya 1943 Korean Steakhouse, Totto Sushi & Grill and Rodizio Grill Hamilton Place, bringing development, consistency and creativity to each concept while keeping every restaurant true to what guests already love."

Torikaya will open soon near Warehouse Row, with updates shared as the restaurant moves closer to opening day, officials said.
