‘We are going to fight': Hotel workers strike at Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown

Дата публикации: 21-06-2026 10:42:13

Workers at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown walked off the job Sunday morning.
The workers, represented by UNITE HERE Local 274, are demanding wages and benefits in line with the new citywide standard, which has been secured at five unionized Center City hotels.
According to the union, the standard includes minimum wages of $30 per hour for non-tipped workers by January 2028, a daily quota of 15 rooms for housekeeping workers, an 18% banquet gratuity and more.
The strike comes as the city sees an influx of visitors for the FIFA World Cup and as America 250 events get underway.
“We told them we were ready to strike the World Cup. They could have easily avoided this by signing the contract,” Sheraton room attendant Francine Heason said in a news release. “We are not worth less than the other hotel workers in this city and we are going to fight for what we deserve.”
Visitors planning to come to Philadelphia should check PhillyTravelAlert.org for the latest information on labor disputes and strikes at hotels.
The Sheraton Downtown is owned by CL Hotels, a Miami-based investment firm, and is operated by Aimbridge Hospitality.
The company provided NBC10 with a statement, saying, “”We respect our team members’ rights to engage in legally protected activities and look forward to reaching a fair contract. While discussions are ongoing, we remain committed to ensuring our guests enjoy their stay.”
