Companies to combine marine engineering with power and cooling infrastructure for floating data centers

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) announced on July 8 that it will jointly develop floating data center (FDC) technology with Schneider Electric, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on July 7 to co-develop FDC infrastructure technologies.

Floating data centers are next-generation facilities that operate servers on offshore floating structures. They are viewed as a potential solution to the growing challenges faced by land-based data centers, including limited site availability and high cooling costs.

Under the partnership, the two companies will combine Schneider Electric's expertise in data center power and cooling infrastructure with HD KSOE's offshore platform technologies to establish integrated design capabilities. They will jointly assess the infrastructure and technical requirements for floating data centers and develop solutions optimized for offshore operating environments.
