Music star Mike Skinner, aka The Streets, has announced a major change to his sold out Saturday night gig in Manchester at the weekend due to the eagerly-anticipated World Cup Quarter Final match between England and Norway. The chart-topping star is playing two huge outdoor sold out gigs as part of the ongoing Sounds of the City series at Castlefield Bowl on Friday and Saturday nights.
He was due to take to the stage just before 9pm on both nights, performing through to 10.30pm. But with England due to kick off their match at 10pm on Saturday, a major change has now been confirmed by the bands on the line-up and the promoters.
He will be performing his seminal second album, A Grand Don't Come For Free, in its entirety at both gigs. The revered album spawned influential hits like 'Fit But Don't You Know It', 'Dry Your Eyes' and 'Blinded By The Lights'.

After England's dramatic 3-2 win against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in the early hours of Monday, their passage through to Saturday's Quarter Final was confirmed. And by Monday afternoon, a statement was issued by The Streets to confirm there would be changes to the Saturday night gig to reflect the 10pm kick off.
It means the full show, including opening time and support acts will all move one hour EARLIER than originally planned. So doors will now open at 4pm, as opposed to the previously advertised 5pm on the Saturday, July 11 gig.
The change to The Streets set time means that their support acts, including Hyde's Antony Szmierek and London's CASISDEAD will play an hour earlier too, bringing their sets forward to 5:40pm and 6:25pm respectively. Below are the adjusted set times for Saturday's show at Castlefield Bowl.
The Streets confirmed the news on their official social media pages, saying "Fear not - Saturday's show will begin early to accommodate england vs norway at 10."
However football fans should note there are no plans to show the World Cup match after the game - so the audience will need to head elsewhere once the gig has concluded. Show organisers have confirmed to the MEN there are no plans at this stage to show the match at the arena.
Sounds of the City kicked off on Friday night with The K's opening the concert series, and while the band hail from Earlestown, the band’s roots mean Manchester has always felt like a second home. Meanwhile, Saturday evening saw the return of iconic Manchester event Haçienda Classical, which celebrated its tenth anniversary of groundbreaking performances.
This week, the concert series will also see performances from Wet Leg and Johnny Marr before The Streets back-to-back takeover on Friday and Saturday night.
These are the new set list times given for The Streets and support acts at both of their sold out shows this week. As always with set times for shows, these are liable to change, and the advice is always to get into the arena as soon as you can if you don't want to miss any of the action.
