Three Lions would face massive semi-final showdown if they prevail at the Miami Stadium

Основное содержимое страницы с новостью.

The Three Lions’ World Cup credentials have certainly tested so far, with injuries, suspensions and adverse weather conditions all posing serious questions of Tuchel’s players.

To their credit, those questions have been answered as England are two positive results away from reaching a first World Cup final since 1966 - when they won the tournament on home soil.

Tuchel, though, will not be thinking that far ahead as there is still plenty of work ahead in order to seal a place in next weekend’s showpiece at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.

While England are facing a Norway side playing in their first-ever World Cup quarter-final, it will still be an extremely difficult challenge especially with Erling Haaland in the form that he is in.

So, if they did get past Norway, who would England play next at the World Cup?

Who would England play next at World Cup if they beat Norway?

If England do manage to beat Norway, they will seal a semi-final spot at the World Cup for the second time in three tournaments.

That would next take them the Atlanta Stadium on July 15, where they would be in line for an 8pm BST kick-off time on a Wednesday night.

Their opponents for that match will be the winners of the Argentina vs Switzerland clash, who face off in the early hours of Sunday morning at 2am.

If Switzerland progress it will be their first-ever World Cup semi-final appearance. They bounced back from a draw in their opener against Qatar to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina and co-hosts Canada to top Group B before beating Algeria in the round of 32.

A penalty shootout victory over Colombia secured the country’s first World Cup quarter-final appearance since 1954.

Argentina, meanwhile, are the defending champions but have shown vulnerabilities in the knockout stage despite 3-2 wins over Cape Verde and Egypt.

World Cup meetings against Argentina have been far more frequent. The most infamous showdown came at Mexico 1986 as eventual champions Argentina won a highly-charged quarter-final tie when the late Diego Maradona scored both the ‘Hand of God’ and arguably the greatest goal in tournament history.
