Arturia have announced the release of the MiniFreak 49, a larger version of their six-voice hybrid synthesizer. The new model brings a more hands-on approach to sound design and performance with 49 full-size semi-weighted keys, expanded panel controls and a pressure-sensitive XYZ touch control matrix.

The new touch matrix provides direct access to modulation, preset browsing and performance controls, with colour-coded feedback and pressure-sensitive expression. It can also be used to control macros, adjust gate settings and introduce variations using the synth’s Spice function.

The MiniFreak 49 retains the original’s dual digital sound engines, analogue filters and VCAs per voice, with more than 30 oscillator modes drawn from Arturia, Mutable Instruments and Noise Engineering. New additions include audio-rate filter FM for more complex harmonics and textures, alongside voice panning to spread sounds across the stereo field.

The synth also features a 64-step sequencer, four modulation lanes, an arpeggiator and three effects slots, each offering 13 algorithms. Its 49-key keyboard includes velocity and monophonic aftertouch, with aluminium pitch and modulation wheels for additional expression.

The software synthesizer version MiniFreak V is included for integration with DAW-based workflows, providing the hardware’s sound engine in virtual instrument form, complete with preset management and bidirectional control. The MiniFreak 49-compatible version is exclusive to registered hardware owners.
