Hi,
after just releasing GTA1Plus recently, here's a mod that adds some modern features to GTA2.
It works with every version of the game I could find.
Here's the list of features:
PAUSE MENU (Esc)
- City map with your position, the gang phones, mission targets and your
own waypoints. Car shops (respray, bombs, machine guns, oil, mines) and
the church are marked with icons.
- Gang areas: the territories of the gangs are tinted in their colours.
- Briefings: read the last phone and mission messages again.
- Progress: money against the level's target, jobs, kill frenzies, GTA2
tokens, lives, multiplier and your respect with each gang on one page.
- Save game (see below).
- GTA2Plus options: change the mod's settings while you play.
- Quit level.
Works with keyboard, mouse and controller. The game is paused meanwhile.
GPS AND MINIMAP
- A route along the roads to your waypoint or the current mission target,
on the map and on the minimap.
- An arrow at the top of the screen points to the next turn.
- Round minimap (key N), in a screen corner of your choice.
SAVE GAMES
- "Save game" in the pause menu saves between missions, like the church
does, but for free.
- The game saves automatically after every completed mission.
- Loading works as usual in the main menu ("Resume saved status"). You
start on the block where you saved - the game on its own would put you
one block further south, which can be behind a fence or inside a
building.
- Before the first save of a session the previous save is copied to
scripts\GTA2Plus_backup.
CONTROLS
- Twin-stick: walk with WASD in screen directions and aim with the mouse.
While aiming you can walk sideways and backwards. Drive with WASD.
- Controllers: Xbox pads (XInput) and PS4/PS5 or other DirectInput pads,
in levels and in the main menu.
- Controller vibration for your shots, hits, crashes and explosions
nearby, with adjustable strength.
- Weapon switching with Q/E or the mouse wheel.
- The mouse works in fullscreen: the game on its own blocks it there.
PICTURE AND CAMERA
- Any resolution (default: the desktop resolution) with a true widescreen
view: vertically you see as much as in 4:3, more to the sides.
- The game's displays move to the screen edges; the main menu and the
intro movie are enlarged to the screen height.
- 32 bit colour: Windows only emulates the game's 16 bit screen mode,
which costs a lot of speed at high resolutions (version 10.5 stutters
with it). GTA2Plus runs the game in 32 bit instead.
- Look ahead with the mouse (towards the screen edge) or the right stick.
- Camera height: the + and - keys raise or lower the camera in steps.
- Optional fixed camera height in vehicles, instead of zooming in and out
with the speed, and the same levels on foot.
- Optional tilted camera in the style of GTA Chinatown Wars
(experimental, off by default): the camera looks ahead at an angle, in
vehicles only or always, and can turn with the driving direction.
If a building hides your character, the game's pink arrow shows where
it is and which way it faces. Switch it on in the options page
("Tilted camera") or with Tilt in the INI.
GAMEPLAY AND FIXES
- Busted: the multiplier is not halved (optional).
- Dual pistols fire the right and the left pistol in turn, straight
ahead, instead of both at an angle past your target (optional).
- The character does not fire while getting into or out of a vehicle.
This also avoids a crash of the game with the flamethrower.
- Alt-Tab: bringing the game window back no longer crashes the game.
