Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s first joint appearance in the U.K. since their return may have been about far more than a warm welcome from well-wishers. A new report suggests that the Sussexes’ move across the pond could be part of a much bigger plan.
On October 15, the couple returned to Nottingham, which holds personal significance to them — it’s where they made their first royal engagement together in 2017. The day seemed to go swimmingly for Harry and Meghan, with around 100 fans lining up to greet the duo ahead of their visit to the Community Recording Studio, per People.

That philanthropic day might be part of something bigger for the Sussexes, though. A source told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack that “Nottingham was the test” for something bigger. Now, “it’s full speed ahead” for their next chapter.
“They didn’t come back just because they missed Britain,” the insider claimed to Shuter. “They came back to reclaim their royal status. In Hollywood, they’re another celebrity couple. In Britain, they’re a duke and duchess. That’s what makes them special, and they know it.”
This “royal moment” may have been a way for Harry and Meghan to look like “working royals” without the parameters placed by the palace. It’s kind of a new “half-in, half-out” approach without having to get approval from King Charles.
The couple’s April trip to Australia seemed to be a “test” run for them internationally, and it worked.
“We’ve tested the playbook; it worked,” a source told The Telegraph after their Australia trip. “They’re doing the right thing. Whether you want to call it half-in, half-out or – as they would probably describe it – just doing what they want to do and doing it in a really positive way, this week has given us reassurance that it is the right course of action. This could absolutely act as a blueprint for the future.”
Fast forward to August with Harry and Meghan making the seemingly abrupt decision to move back to the U.K., but the plan might have been in the works a lot earlier than anyone realized. With the feud between Harry, Charles, and Prince William still raging, it looks like the Sussexes are taking matters into their own hands — a “half-in, half-out” repositioning without royal support works for them.
While the U.K. may not be the friendliest territory for Harry and Meghan, they can use their work to springboard into other opportunities on a global scale. And this time, it sounds like a real plan.
