Is anyone really surprised that Elon could build a car that can fly?
But that’s exactly what we saw last night when Tesla revealed its latest Roadster EV which is slated to start production in 2028. The car has some incredible tricks up its sleeve that were demonstrated last night. In addition to flying, hopping, and doing barrel rolls mid-air, it also has a suction fan system that pulls the car to the road to allow cornering at greater than 1 g. That suction is so strong that it can hold the weight of the car vertically and even upside down.
The other trick is the car’s insane acceleration. Utilizing those cold-gas thrusters, the Roadster can achieve a 0-60 MPH time in as little as 0.8 seconds!
While we view the flying through the air and barrel rolls as being a novelty because really, are you going to be doing that on your morning commute? No, you’re not. But on the racetrack, the combination of the suction fans for cornering while the car can also achieve high speeds means that some track records are going to fall. Elon predicted the same during the presentation.
One of those in attendance at the live reveal was Brooks from DragTimes who is known to race a Tesla Plaid on occasion. Brooks has some great video footage from before and after the car’s live reveal. After the online reveal concluded, Tesla did a few more demonstrations for those in attendance. Brooks was also able to check out the car up close as well as view many of its components.
