This 1965 Corvette Sting Ray now offered on Hagerty was previously owned by Robert Downey Jr, who converted it to an EV as part of his TV show, Downey's Dream Cars.

Tony Stark may have had an arc reactor powering his Iron Man suit, but apparently Robert Downey Jr. figured a couple of electric motors would work just fine for his 1965 Corvette.
That’s right. A classic C2 Corvette once owned by the actor who brought Marvel’s Iron Man to life has traded its rumbling V8 for the silence of an electric powertrain.
And now this unusual creation — should we call it the “Corvettesla” — is back on the auction block.

With 10 days remaining, the high bid on Hagerty.com stands at just $22,00 after ten bids.
That’s a far cry from the $77,000 the car reportedly brought at Mecum’s Glendale auction in March 2025, although there’s obviously plenty of time for the bidding to heat up.
The Corvette was previously part of Downey’s personal collection and received its electric transformation on his television series, Downey’s Dream Cars.

The show followed the actor and his team as they modernized six classic vehicles, attempting to make them more environmentally friendly without completely sacrificing their personalities.
In this Corvette’s case, that meant saying goodbye to the original 327 V8, rated at 300 horsepower, and replacing it with two NetGain Hyper 9 electric motors and Tesla EV electronics.
The motors drive the rear wheels through a Torque Solutions EV Torque Box gear-reduction transmission.
Seven Tesla Model S battery modules provide a combined capacity of 37.1 kilowatt-hours, reportedly giving the car a driving range of approximately 90 to 100 miles.

That’s probably not enough to make it from California to Stark Tower in New York, but it should handle a few trips around town without requiring an emergency landing.
And while Iron Man’s suit could fly, this Corvette still has to obey the laws of gravity — and presumably the speed limit.
Interestingly, the conversion was designed to preserve much of the Corvette’s original structure.

According to a previous Hagerty report, the electric drivetrain utilizes the factory engine mounts, with only minor bracket modifications necessary.
That means a future owner could theoretically return the car to gasoline power without extensive surgery.
Finished in satin blue with a tan interior and convertible top, the Corvette retains its classic midyear styling, although the exterior trim and 15-inch steel wheels have also received satin finishes.

Other modifications include EZ electric power steering, RideTech suspension upgrades and a Bluetooth radio.
Even the original dashboard gauges have been recruited into the electric revolution.
The fuel gauge now displays battery charge percentage, while the tachometer indicates the amount of energy being drawn from the battery pack.

And where drivers once poured gasoline into the tank, they’ll now find a J1772 charging port concealed beneath the original fuel-filler location.
That’s certainly one way to confuse an unsuspecting gas station attendant.
The seller, who acquired the Corvette in 2025, reports a couple of imperfections.
The driver’s-side headlight mechanism operates intermittently, while the windshield wipers have been parked, with the original motor still installed but disconnected. The paint on the hood looks like it has multiple nicks to us, too.
The car comes with a clean Florida title, an EV owner’s manual from Electrified Garage, a 12-volt battery tender and a Level 1 charger.
Of course, the big question is what this unusual Corvette is worth.

Traditional Corvette enthusiasts might cringe at the thought of removing a perfectly good small-block Chevy V8 from one of America’s most beloved sports cars.
Others may appreciate the engineering involved in giving a 62-year-old Corvette an entirely new personality.
And then there’s the celebrity connection.

After all, how many people can say their Corvette once belonged to Iron Man?
The $77,000 Mecum sale suggests at least one buyer was willing to pay a premium for the combination of classic Corvette styling, electric technology and Hollywood history.
Whether the current auction approaches that figure remains to be seen.
One thing is certain: This isn’t your grandfather’s 1965 Corvette. It is – or at least was – Iron Man’s.
