Chevrolet offered two shades of blue on the 1972 Corvette, but one was considerably harder to find than the other.

While 3,198 buyers chose Targa Blue, only 1,617 opted for Bryar Blue, a distinctive shade offered for just one model year.

Now one of those relatively rare Bryar Blue Stingrays is looking for a new home.

Listed on Craigslist in Raleigh, North Carolina, this 1972 Corvette coupe carries an asking price of $19,500 — potentially an appealing opportunity for someone who wants to enjoy a classic C3 Corvette without paying for a fully restored show car.

And unlike some vintage Corvettes advertised as projects, this one apparently doesn’t need a trailer to get it home.

According to the seller, the car runs and drives well, having recently made the trip from Wilmington to Wake County under its own power.

The Corvette is also generously equipped by early-1970s standards, boasting power steering, power brakes, power windows and air conditioning.

Under the hood is a 350 V8 paired with an automatic transmission. The listing doesn’t establish whether the engine is original, but the combination should make for a comfortable cruiser.

Inside, the black interior contrasts nicely with the Bryar Blue exterior, while removable T-top roof panels offer the option of open-air driving.

The seller says the roof doesn’t leak, which should be welcome news to anyone familiar with the headaches of aging T-top seals.

The car rides on traditional Corvette Rally wheels with trim rings, wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires that the seller describes as being in good condition.

The 1972 model marked the final year Corvettes wore chrome bumpers at both ends. Chevrolet switched to a body-colored urethane front bumper for 1973, followed by a redesigned rear bumper in 1974.

As for the paint, the seller believes it may be original, although a few areas could use touching up.

That means this Corvette isn’t going to win any concours awards in its present condition.

But perhaps that’s part of its appeal. There’s something refreshing about a classic Corvette that can be driven without worrying about every rock chip, parking-lot ding or sudden rain shower.

The seller makes no claims that it’s a flawless survivor or a freshly restored masterpiece. Instead, the car is presented as an enjoyable driver that could be improved gradually as time and money allow.

And at less than $20,000, that approach might appeal to enthusiasts who would rather spend their weekends cruising than waiting years for a restoration project to be completed.

Of course, prospective buyers should still inspect the frame, birdcage, mechanical components and documentation before handing over their money.

But assuming everything checks out, this Bryar Blue beauty could offer a satisfying combination of rarity, classic styling and everyday enjoyment.

After all, with only 1,617 produced in this color, you’re not likely to encounter another one at every Corvette gathering.

And isn’t that part of the fun of owning something a little different?
