RENTON — The Seahawks will be without rookie running back Jadarian Price for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced Friday, after he re-aggravated a chest injury in practice.

Price initially suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Seattle’s win at Arizona on Sept. 20, and after playing through it last Sunday at Washington, hurt it again on Wednesday, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said.

Macdonald said he did not know yet if the injury could keep Price out beyond this week.

“Not sure how long he’s going to be out,” Macdonald said.

With Price out, Seattle will have three running backs potentially available for the Chargers game: Emanuel Wilson and George Holani, who are both on the 53-man roster, and Velus Jones Jr., who is on the practice squad.

Jacardia Wright is also on the practice squad but Macdonald indicated he is not an option to play Sunday, saying Wright is “working through some things right now that we’re going to help him navigate through health-wise.”

Macdonald, though, expressed confidence the Seahawks can put together the running game needed on Sunday with the players on hand.

“I’m excited to see these guys play,” Macdonald said. “It’s unfortunate with JD (Price). Hopefully this gives him an opportunity to get healthy. But we’ve got guys that are ready to go behind him that are preparing their tails off and are good players, so we feel like we have a good plan and we’ll go play a game.”

Not yet eligible to play is Zach Charbonnet. Charbonnet was designated as returning to practice on Thursday from the physically unable to perform list. But because he began the season on the PUP list he must sit out the first four games and can’t play Sunday. The first game for which he would be eligible is Oct. 11 against the 49ers at Lumen Field.

Jones has already been elevated twice this season, and while he has not seen action on offense he has played 39 special-teams snaps and he seems likely to be elevated off the practice squad on Saturday to work behind Wilson and Holani.

The Seahawks selected Price 32nd overall in the 2026 draft to help replace the production lost when Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Price’s NFL career has gotten off to a rocky start as he sat out much of camp with a lower-body injury and did not play in preseason games.

He has played in all three regular-season games, leading the Seahawks with 119 yards on 28 carries, 4.3 per attempt. But he has lost fumbles in each of the past two games and was benched for much of the first half in Sunday’s 33-31 loss at Washington after losing a fumble on the second series of the game.

He played 19 snaps, with 15 yards on five carries — 11 on his first carry of the game — as the Commanders held the Seahawks to just 44 yards rushing on 18 carries overall.

“By no means is this JD’s fault or anything like that,” Macdonald said. “This is just what happens in football. Unfortunately, injuries happen. He can’t control these things. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do since he’s gotten here. He’s had a great attitude. He’s been a great teammate. He has a great future. He’s going to play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is, and we move forward.”

With Price out, Wilson — who signed a one-year deal in March as a free agent after spending the last three years in Green Bay — is in line to get his first start as a Seahawk.

Wilson, listed at 5-foot-10, 226 pounds and lauded for his ability to run between the tackles, has 109 yards on 32 carries this season, including 92 on 21 against Arizona when he got much of the work in the fourth quarter after Price was sidelined.

“It’s just next man up,” Wilson said Friday. “Not trying to have that mentality but it just is what it is in this business and really we’re just going to go out there and do what we’ve got to do to get the job done.”

Holani, who has played mostly as the third-down, two-minute back in his career, has also been battling a rib injury that had him listed as limited in practice all three days this week.

Holani, who first joined the Seahawks in 2024 as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State, has 52 yards on 15 carries this season and also six receptions for 50 yards.

Macdonald said Charbonnet has “looked fantastic” in practice this week but that he is not yet ready to put a timetable for when he may return.

“For me to make any declaration is unfair to Zach,” Macdonald said. “There’s a process. We want him to feel great about when he can come back and we’ll abide by that process.”

Macdonald lauded how quickly Charbonnet was able to make it back to the practice field from what was surgery in mid-February to repair an ACL injury suffered on Jan. 17 in the divisional-playoff win over the 49ers.

“For how he’s taken on this rehab and gotten himself in the shape that he’s in and the strength that he has is remarkable,” Macdonald said. “… We respect the hell out of him. We want to do right by the process. That’s what our focus is on.”

Love set to play

In better injury news, starting safety Julian Love — who missed the Washington game with a calf injury — was given no injury designation and is set to play Sunday after Macdonald said he “had a good week of practice.”

Ty Okada, who entered the season projected to start at the other safety spot but has not played due to a hamstring injury, again practiced on a limited basis Friday and was listed as questionable and has a chance to play.

The Seahawks also listed linebacker and special teamer Chazz Surratt as questionable with a calf injury that occurred in practice. But everyone else is good to go.

Oregon’s Lanning pays visit to practice

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning and some members of his staff visited practice on Thursday.

While Macdonald and Lanning have not worked together, they have gotten to know each other through the years, in part due to their association with Georgia.

Macdonald graduated from Georgia in 2010 and got his coaching start there from 2011-13, while Lanning was on Georgia’s staff from 2018-21.

Oregon has a bye this week and Macdonald said Lanning was in town recruiting.

“It was great to see Dan,” Macdonald said. “… It was good to catch up and see how they were doing. Bounce a couple ideas off one another. Dan and I never worked together, but just a lot of respect for him, going back to Georgia, things like that and connecting over the years. A lot of respect for him and how he runs his program.”
