Addiction recovery company Evergreen Recovery in St. Paul was raided by the FBI in July of 2024 following a fraud investigation and its assets were frozen. Now, one of the company’s co-owners has apparently remembered that the company has a certificate of deposit worth $25 million — far more than Evergreen’s stated assets were worth — that should probably be included in that total.

In 2025, FDA investigators found some troubling stuff at Gold Star Distribution in Minneapolis: nine live rodents, 17 dead rodents “in various states of decay,” and several live birds and worms. The company sells food mostly to stores in Minnesota, and promises of upgrades to the facility have not progressed sufficiently, so the federal government is now suing Gold Star Distribution to force the closure of the facility.

Threat management experts are calling for Minnesota to implement a statewide violence-prevention system in the wake of the Shoreline Plaza Apartments in early September. Behavioral Threat Assessment Management approaches threat assessment more holistically than traditional methods that only track criminal records. 

A bomb threat was called into Elk River High School yesterday, leading to early dismissal of classes, although police ultimately found no danger to the school. 

Carleton College in Northfield is eliminating loans from its financial aid packages, a move also made by more than 20 other colleges in the country in an effort to reduce student debt. Students are currently offered loans of $4,500 to $7,000 that will be replaced by grants and scholarships going forward.

New data obtained by the Deportation Data Project show that Operation Metro Surge led to over 2,300 immigrants leaving the country. 

The immigrants were most often deported to Ecuador, Mexico and other Latin American countries, consistent with the earlier data, with two notable additions: More than 80 immigrants were deported to Laos, and 14 to Somalia, higher than the one or two recorded deportations to those countries in the March data.

Following Operation Metro Surge, Hennepin County implemented a program to help small businesses with rent and mortgage expenses and funded it with $2 million. But after receiving over 300 applications and flagging over 200 for fraud, the program has only paid out $500,000 to roughly 80 applicants.
