Charity Dementia Adventure has announced the return of its popular Green Letter Days programme for 2026, offering a growing calendar of free days out for people living with dementia, alongside their families, carers and care home residents.
Following a successful launch last year, the charity has expanded the initiative with an even wider range of activities designed to help people reconnect with nature, hobbies and social experiences in safe and supportive environments.
The programme is built around the idea that dementia should not prevent people from continuing to enjoy meaningful activities. Every Green Letter Day is carefully facilitated by Dementia Adventure staff and trained partners, with small group sizes, relaxed schedules and accessible venues helping attendees feel comfortable and supported.
New activities for 2026 include dementia-inclusive cycling sessions and tennis days, joining returning favourites such as golf, walking cricket, boat trips and guided garden tours. Events are free to attend, although donations are welcomed where possible.
There are currently an estimated 982,000 people living with dementia in the UK, a number expected to rise significantly in the coming decades. Dementia Adventure says many people experience shrinking social circles and reduced opportunities to participate in the activities they once loved. Green Letter Days aim to reverse that trend by creating opportunities for people with dementia and their carers to take part side by side.
Supporting the 2026 launch is former Welsh rugby international Alix Popham, who was diagnosed with early-onset dementia in 2019 at the age of 40. Popham attended the first Green Letter cycling day in Gloucester and spoke about the positive impact exercise and time outdoors have had on his wellbeing.
Alix said: “Getting out for a cycle, being in nature, and sharing that time with other people makes a real difference to my wellbeing. Dementia can shrink your world if you let it, but initiatives like this open it back up again.”
Upcoming 2026 Green Letter Days include cycling events in Gloucester and the Forest of Dean, golf days in Yorkshire and Sussex, tennis sessions in Hertfordshire, walking cricket at major grounds, accessible boat trips in Portsmouth, Whitby and Loch Ness, plus garden tours in the Lake District and Cambridge.
Full details and booking information are available via the Green Letter Days website.
